It was our intention to channel/create a body of music that is interfaith
accessible‹that explores concepts of God and practice which transcend the
various established religious expressions, yet is still grounded in
traditional spiritual and religious experience. For this reason, we chose
parts of the form of the traditional Mass, as a depiction of the ritualized
journey an initiation into and with God presence that is a part of any
spiritual quest. We brainstormed with a female Episcopal priest about what
the different components of the mass symbolize. Amy allowed the form and
intention to offer lyrics through her, and Katy subsequently channeled the
music from the inspiration of the words and intention. Arrangements were
created together. The phases of the journey include the opening (Kyrie),
praising (Gloria), prayer (Pater Noster), peace (Passing of the Peace),
innocence (Agnus Dei), and abundance (Ite Misse Est).

This CD was recorded live in the gorgeous chapel of Holy Cross Monastery, a
Benedictine Order, in West Park, New York. As it was recorded in a live
space, you will hear a few unplanned accompaniments in some of the pieces:
the radiator, a train in the background, a cough or two, and the spirits of
seekers from years gone by.

We love singing Christmas music- telling the Christmas story of Incarnation,
Light, and Love in the darkest time of the year always lifts our spirits and
prepares us for the New Year. And we are blessed to be able to do this with
each other as we are dear friends and sisters. We sang these pieces for our
community on a blizzarding December 14th night and continued to work into
the wee hours of the morning singing through the deep, peaceful silence
created by the sacred space of the monastery and by the deepening snow
outside. We hope you will be drawn into the warmth, comfort and mystery that
the energy of this night and the power of the music created. And may all
your lives be full of the truest blessings of the Christ."

This rich and contemplative album is a collection of the chants of
Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179), medieval nun, abbess and mystic, which
were sung by the nuns of her abbey, day after day, year after year, but
not written down until near her death. The music is performed by a
medieval choir Katy sang with in Vermont, and the voices of the group's 14
women, rising and circling with Hildegard's stunning melodies, are full of
the earthy spirituality of the middle ages; vielle (medieval fiddle),
harp, and flute accompany.
